Park up at Gailey Wharf between 8.30am and 9am where we will greet you. Full tuition given on arrival on the handling of the boat.

Choose our preferred leisurely lock free route and head towards Autherley Junction. This journey should take you about 3 to 31/2 hours, cruising past Hatherton Marina, Coven and Pendeford along the way. Then 3 to 3 1/2hours return. which allows time to stop for a picnic.
Alternatively why not take advantage of the NEW JURASSIC CREEK at the Three Hammers Golf complex. Located just off bridge 71 and a short walk, The Three Hammers offers a choice of the driving range, The new Crazy golf complex, American golf shop or the fantastic onsite bar and bistro. Alternatively a short walk in the opposite direction and mooring available directly outside, pop in The Anchor pub for a spot of food or a drink.
If wishing to enjoy this pit stop we would suggest cruising past bridge 71 down to the winding hole. This should take around 2 hours and 15 minutes. Then up to 10 minutes cruising back up to bridge 71 where you can find a spot safe and sensible to moor.

Alternatively, you can depart from Gailey and head towards Penkridge for an additional £35.00 upon booking.
This route has 6 locks up to Penkridge and 6 locks back and will definitely keep you busy, so if you prefer a more relaxed day we would recommend the lock free option.
When approaching Penkridge you can turn at Toms Moorings ready to return. Should you like to stop in Penkridge you can find, The Cross Keys and The Boat pubs on the canal side or alternatively venture into the village with a short walk for shops & food.

  • “Fantastic Day out”

Just returned from our self drive day trip on Elsie Elisabeth 😊. Fantastic day out, we were shown around the boat and how to use the locks before we were left to our own devices (sorry we didn’t catch the gentlemans name who showed us but he was very nice and knowledgeable 😁). We travelled towards Acton Trussell from Gailey through the locks (there is also a ‘no lock’ route) our 2 boys loved operating the locks 😊. We got stuck behind a few boats on our way back especially around Penkridge and got soaked by a huge downpour, but this didn’t dampen our day out… Oh and I can’t forget our gorgeous afternoon tea prepared by georgie’s (photo below is just one of the boxes… We did have 2 of these for 4 people) …. We had to bring most of the cakes back home…. Oh well ❤️😁😁.

  • “Lovely wholesome day”

We did a day hire on a self drive barge last week and it was such a lovely wholesome day. We stopped off at a pub for a drink and the barge itself has everything you could need for the day! Steve was brilliant at showing us the ropes, would definitely recommend!

  • “Staff really friendly”

We’ve had a lovely day on the day hire boat. Good instructions on routes and how to drive the boat as we’ve never done it before. Staff really friendly. Will be doing the route with locks next time 💪

  • “relaxing day on the water”

Ventured south, enjoying a pub lunch en route. Complete amateurs but we had a fabulous relaxing day on the water. Shane met us at the marina first thing and after 30 minutes we were confident to cast off. Enjoyed how friendly everyone we met was and would definitely recommend the day out.

  • “it was perfect”

Great day out with friends. They were very friendly and informative of what we needed to do, and how to stay safe whilst out on the boat. We were a group of 4 and it was perfect, we had the boat from 9-5 which was just enough time to stop off at a couple of pubs in Penkridge! 👍🏼 We all enjoyed it so much we’re planning on doing it again very soon! 😁

  • “facilities on board were brilliant”

We hired the self drive boat for the day, not one of us had driven a boat before. Shane explained everything really well and came with us a little way to ensure we knew what we were doing and met us on the way back to take the boat into the marina. Facilities on board were brilliant, tea, coffee, sugar, water, toilets, all the kitchen utensils you need for cooking lunch, making drinks. We ordered a cream tea for our journey as we had a special birthday on board and the cream tea was yumster, will be having one again. We were blessed by the weather and are already planning our next trip. Seriously can’t recommend this enough. Will be doing one of the other cruises next! Excellent value for money too.
